Bert received his technical training at the U.S. Naval Academy (BS Engineering) and at the Georgia Institute of Technology (MS Computer Science), and also holds an MBA in Management/Marketing from the University of Utah. Until 1981 Bert served as an officer in the USAF, where for the last half of his career, he held positions with various levels of responsibility in computing, telecommunications, and space systems. Since 1981, he has been involved at all levels of Management Consulting work in Europe for a variety of US-based clients, including Comsat Corp., United Technologies, Westinghouse Electronic Systems, Lockheed Martin, and L-3 Communications, among others. Bert is fluent in French and speaks German, Swedish and Italian to a lesser degree of proficiency. In addition to his position on the Board of Tri Polus, Bert is a principal Consultant with InterTech Services, a consultancy company and holds other board positions.
